WASHINGTON – Kamala Harris, the former Vice President and two-time Democratic presidential contender, confirmed on July 30 that she will not enter the 2026 California governor’s race — but she’s keeping the door open for a future run for the White House.


In a surprise announcement, Harris stated, “For now, my leadership – and public service – will not be in elected office.” She added that she looks forward to reconnecting with Americans, supporting Democratic candidates nationwide, and revealing more about her future plans in the coming months.


According to a source familiar with her thinking, the 60-year-old didn’t step aside from the gubernatorial race simply to prepare for a 2028 presidential run — but she also hasn’t ruled it out.
